SULIMAN CARRIM FIGHTS FOR BAIL! LAWYER WARNS OF HEART ATTACK RISK
National Security Inquiry Turns Volatile as Failing Health and Unpaid Fines Push Prominent Figures to the Brink of Prison

Courtroom B17/1053/2026 erupted into a high-stakes legal battle on October 16, 2026, as the state formally prosecuted Sulaman Karim for criminally snubbing the Madlanga Commission.
Presiding officer Mr. Kuis convened the court alongside public prosecutor Mr. Peter to process the first-appearance matter, where the state immediately offered a formal apology for delaying the start of proceedings.
The prosecution subsequently entered a provisional annex detailing Sulaman Karim‘s defiant pattern of avoiding the judicial inquiry established by President Cyril Ramaphosa under proclamation notice 269 of 2025.
The Madlanga Commission was created to investigate rampant criminality, political interference, and corruption inside South Africa’s criminal justice system.
Records presented to the court revealed that Sulaman Karim was served with a Regulation 10 Sub 6 notice on October 24, 2025, ordering him to testify before the commission on March 9 and March 10, 2026.
After failing to finish his initial testimony, Sulaman Karim was explicitly ordered by the commission chairman to return on April 16, 2026, with mandatory additional documents.
Sulaman Karim failed to appear on both April 16, 2026, and April 29, 2026, citing an ongoing medical condition.
A formal summons was issued on May 8, 2026, and officially served on Sulaman Karim on May 12, 2026, commanding his physical presence on June 1, 2026.
Simultaneously, a supplementary notice issued on May 20, 2026, demanded that Sulaman Karim surrender sensitive financial documents on or before May 27, 2026.
When Sulaman Karim refused to show up on June 1, 2026, the commission postponed his subpoenaed appearance to June 25, 2026.
Sulaman Karim ignored the June 25, 2026 summons, leaving all required financial records outstanding and forcing a further postponement to July 15, 2026.
Following his failure to attend on July 15, 2026, the chairperson ruled on a formal postponement application on July 29, 2026, ordering Sulaman Karim to testify in person on August 14, 2026.
Sulaman Karim intentionally failed to appear at Pretoria Central on August 14, 2026, without chairperson authorization, violating Section 6 Subsection 1 of the Commission’s Act 8 of 1947.
Mr. Peter immediately applied to have Sulaman Karim remanded in custody under Section 50 Subsection 6 Paragraph D of the Criminal Procedure Act, arguing that police still needed to physically verify his home address.
Mr. Peter placed on record that while police obtained Sulaman Karim‘s criminal profile two months prior, police investigations remained entirely incomplete.
Defense counsel mounted a fierce objection to remanding Sulaman Karim in custody, warning the court that the state’s request violated constitutional protections under Section 121A and Section 35 1F.
Defense advocates pointed out that the non-compliance offense under the Commission’s Act only carried a historical statutory penalty of 50 counts or a 50-pound fine.
Disclosing critical medical details, defense counsel informed Mr. Kuis that Sulaman Karim suffers from a severe heart condition that previously required emergency hospitalization during the commission’s schedule.
Defense counsel revealed that intense anxiety and stress caused Sulaman Karim to skip his required heart medication that morning, leaving him suffering on the verge of a life-threatening panic attack inside the courtroom.
Exposing the state’s address verification argument as completely absurd, the defense produced official documentation proving Sulaman Karim resided at 4345 Palmer Crescent, Leopard Park, Mafikeng for over 17 years.
The defense submitted a 2009 CIPC registration document for ZV Investments and a Mafikeng Local Municipality statement, proving the state had successfully served every single commission summons at that exact same Leopard Park address.
Defense counsel requested that Mr. Kuis reject the state’s detention request, offering that Sulaman Karim report to a local police station the following morning to accompany officers to his home address under reasonable bail conditions.
