Unprecedented Federal Pursuit Intensifies as Suspended Official Targeted in Second Sudden Raid Following Landmark Law Enforcement Arrests

A dramatic escalation in federal law enforcement operations has shaken the top levels of the government apparatus.

While suspended Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection Shadrach Sibiya spends his first night inside the Hosim Muru Correctional Center, the Presidential Protection and Tactical Team has shifted its direct focus onto another high-profile figure.

Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has become the central target of a relentless federal sweep after officers executed a second search and seizure operation at his private family residence in KwaZulu-Natal.

This second raid follows an earlier operation in October 2025, when authorities initially seized communication devices belonging to Senzo Mchunu, Cedric Frolick, and Shadrach Sibiya.

Unlike the prior action in Pretoria, federal officers descended directly on the KwaZulu-Natal family home of Senzo Mchunu on Monday, September 21, 2026.

Armed with a warrant issued by the Johannesburg High Court, the team demanded the immediate surrender of cellular handsets bearing specific IMEI numbers listed in the legal mandate.

Senzo Mchunu handed over the requested devices in the presence of his legal counsel, marking the second time law enforcement has confiscated his official communication tools without returning the original set.

Following the sudden raid, Senzo Mchunu released a formal statement acknowledging the high-court warrant and confirming that federal authorities are actively pursuing him.

The official statement confirmed that police served the warrant directly at the private residence, with Senzo Mchunu complying as a law-abiding citizen while indicating he plans to address the developments publicly.

The ongoing search for specific IMEI numbers indicates that forensic investigators are actively retrieving deleted data from the seized devices.

Prior to this second raid, Senzo Mchunu faced intense questioning from Julius Malema during an Ad Hoc Committee sitting regarding the legality and execution of police search warrants.

During the committee hearing, Julius Malema confronted Senzo Mchunu over reports that police officers were previously prevented from conducting searches, questioning whether official privilege was abused to block investigators.

Senzo Mchunu defended his actions before the committee, asserting that officers initially arrived at the property of Cedric Frolick without a signed search warrant before returning a second time with documentation dated on the actual day of the raid.

Denying any abuse of ministerial power, Senzo Mchunu argued that unlawful police actions and improper procedure were creating widespread litigation concerns across law enforcement.

The federal crackdown coincides with explosive testimony presented at the Madlanga Commission by Dhana Govender.

During his official testimony, Dhana Govender revealed details of a direct conversation with Senzo Mchunu, claiming the minister offered him full protection while attempting to influence his statement.

According to Dhana Govender, Senzo Mchunu explicitly instructed him to implicate General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in relation to a series of shootings.

Dhana Govender testified under oath that he pretended to agree during the phone call simply to hear the full extent of the minister’s demands.

With Shadrach Sibiya currently incarcerated at the Hosim Muru Correctional Center, federal investigators are maintaining their momentum as the focus widens toward Senzo Mchunu and Cedric Frolick.
